    What’s covered by the first time central heating grant?

    First-time central heating grants cover the installation of mains gas boilers, biomass boilers, LPG boilers, air source heat pumps, and electric boilers as well as radiators, pipework and heating controls.

    Am I eligible for funding for a first time central heating upgrade?

    £1,000s of free grants are available for central heating. To qualify, you’ll need to be a homeowner, with an EPC rating of D, E, F or G. Private tenants must have a rating of D or below.

    You must also meet some additional criteria:

    • No central heating, boiler or radiators and be fuelled by another source (e.g. electric, solid fuel, bottled LP0G, wood/biomass or an oil room heater)
    • Your home must have had an existing mains gas supply before 31st March 2022.
    • You must have adequate loft insulation or wall insulation (this can be installed alongside your new central heating system)

    To be eligible for first-time central heating grants under ECO4, households be on a low income or receiving the following benefits.

    • Child Benefits – depends on income threshold* (see thresholds)

    • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
    • Income-related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
    • Income Support (IS)
    • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit (PCGC)
    • Pension Credit Savings Credit (New for ECO4)
    • Universal Credit (UC)
    • Warm Home Discount Scheme Rebate
    • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
